it says "you may not install to this disk because its connected by firewire" or to that effect

i got around this by using USB2.0 connection to the drive instead..but that obv wont work for everyone.. but if your drive enclosure it lets you install to usb2.0 but not to firewire..then try that.. i guess reflecting the changes in hardware in macs of recent years.. all having usb.. and none having firewire. and thanks to having 3000 different versions of osx...  thanks apple


after installing to the usb i was able to change the settings of OCLP and "enable booting from firewire"
now runnign big sur on a early 2008 imac! its a little slow.. but it works!
