"dunno why 3.x didnt work"

As far as I can remember, there was no online update for Windows 3.x.

in order To disable ACPI you must press F7 during the early stage of a Windows XP setup
 (specifically when prompted to press F6 for storage drivers);
this action is a legacy workaround for Windows XP and will silently disable ACPI to bypass compatibility issues.

Do not press F6: for drivers, and do not expect any notification; the system will silently disable ACPI, allowing you to continue with the installation.

This method does not work for modern operating systems like Windows 7 and 10,
which do not support the same method of pressing F7 option for disabling ACPI during setup.

For newer systems, there is no "non-ACPI" version to install.

For Newer Operating Systems (Windows Vista, 7, 10, 11):
The F7 option to disable ACPI during setup does not exist: on these newer versions of Windows.

again, Modern Windows versions require ACPI, so there is no "non-ACPI" version to install.

this is mostly important to people that own hardware that was produced for Windows 95 or Windows 98 back in the mid/late 1990s (1995 - 1999), after windows xp was released the differences in ACPI resulted in some hardware having incompatibilities. these incompatibilities are sidestepped by disabling ACPI to make the hardware compatible with windows again, Windows XP that is. theres a number of products that this affects. if you know of other hardware that requires this workaround please post so we can compile a more comprehensive list of hardware affected.

devices affected include:
Opcode Studio 64x
Opcode Studio 128x
Opcode Studio 64XTC

these interfaces are also possibly also affected?:
Emagic AMT8
Emagic Unitor8
